Information Technology program started in 1998 in this college so as to meet the rapidly expanding demand for graduates with interdisciplinary skills for application across the whole range of computer and information based industries. A graduate study was introduced in 2013 in the Computer Science and Technology.

Information Technology program was started in 1998 with an intake of 40 seats, so as to meet the rapidly expanding demand for graduates with interdisciplinary skills for application across the whole range of computer and information based industries. Information Technology is arguably advancing at a faster rate than any other technology in history. Later intake increased from 40 to 60 in the year 1999-2000, 60 to 90 in 2000-2001 and 90 to 120 in 2006-2007. The department is also running M.Tech(CST) course from 2013 with an intake of 18. The Bachelors degree in Information Technology is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, four times during 2007, 2012, 2017 and 2021.

The program emphasizes on creative thinking, ability to critically analyze and synthesize issues for scientific observations, decision making and to solve problems, improve communication, interpersonal and other soft skills to successfully work-in multidisciplinary teams. Skills are developed through a combination of both knowledge development and practice study of courses with a competence emphasis. The department provides state of art computing facilities to the students through well equipped labs.

The labs have clusters based on RedHat linux 5.0 Enterprise Server, Microsoft Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition, Microsoft 2008 Enterprise edition, Suse/Ubuntu Linux, SME server configured with software such as C, C++, Visual C++, Visual Studio .NET, Visual Studio, JDK, Visual FoxPro, Rational rose software, Tomcat , Oracle 8i and Oracle 9i developer. Labs are also equipped for data warehousing and data mining activities. The department has over 269 Intel core i3, Intel core i5 and Intel core i7 processors, which are fully networked with latest hardware and software. Computer centers are fully air conditioned with adequate UPS backup and 1 GBPS leased line internet facility.

A good number of university ranks are secured by the students of Information technology every year in the university examinations and alumni is well settled in esteemed positions. Many students are pursuing post graduation in prestigious institutions. Large numbers of students are placed in reputed companies like TCS, CSC, CTS, INFOSYS, INTERGRAPH, Amazon, Darwin Box, and etc. Experts from industry and institutions visit the department contributing to the enhancement of the department. Together, the staff and students are a cheerful and lively group with the sole object of continuous learning. The Department has a vibrant student body numbering about 500.

The department library has prescribed and reference text books according to the syllabus. Currently the department library has 473 books. The department library is in possession of foundation series material produced by Infosys Technologies Ltd. The library also has software user manuals produced by IT majors such as IBM, CISCO etc.

On regular basis, Department of IT in coordination with departments of CSE is conducting CIS'SOIREE, a National Level Technical Students Meet for the last 20 years. Around 300 to 400 participants from all over India are actively participating in this event.

The program is handled by 4 Professors and 7 Associate Professors and 16 Assistant Professors. The competency, eagerness and enthusiasm of Faculty are reflecting in the quality research publications. 9 Faculty members are pursuing their Ph.D from various universities. UGC has sanctioned Rs. 10,25,000/- (Rupees ten lakhs and twenty five thousand) under Major Research Project Scheme.
